Anya Wiebe

Voice Teacher

About Anya Wiebe

Anya Wiebe developed a love for music from a young age, being involved in musical theatre productions since age 7, singing in multiple groups ranging from small ensembles to choir, and training in classical voice. Her favourite musical theatre roles include Peter Pan (Peter Pan), Mrs. Bennet (Pride and Prejudice), and Mother Abbess (Sound of Music). She also earned gold distinction in the BC Conservatory of Music singing festival (2020). Anya has completed her RCM Grade 8 Voice with First Class Honours, and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Education with music education as a specialization.

Anya has worked for 3+ years in special education and outdoor education, with students on the autism spectrum, with ADHD, Down Syndrome, and various mental health challenges. Drawing from this background, she seeks to find and bring out the strengths in each student by understanding the individual and adapting to their needs. She believes that allowing the student to take risks, explore, and experiment within the framework of good technique is key to discovering the instrument of the voice. Anya especially enjoys teaching students to sing harmonies by ear.

Anya loves arranging, and writing her own songs with her guitar. When she is not making music, she loves to read, swim, crochet, and rock climb. After her studies, she hopes to pursue a career as a teacher, or in cross-cultural/non-profit work.
